Illegal dumping a community’s problem

Residents turn open spaces into dumpsite.

Illegal dumping is one of the biggest recurring problems in the community, says Councillor Sphiwe Mbongo.

The Ward 41 councillor says residents continue to dump even when there are continuous cleaning campaigns at dumping sites.

Mbongo says: “It is the community’s responsibility to ensure that the surroundings are clean.

“Residents who dump should be reported and fined.”

He said open spaces are not there for residents to dump on.

“For our communities to be where we wish them to be, government cannot work alone,” Mbongo says.
